Container Mass Exemption Notice 2019

Container Mass Exemption Notice 2019

The New South Wales Class 3 Port Botany Container Transportation Mass Exemption Notice 2019 has been published by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) in the Commonwealth Gazette under section 117 of the HVNL, and is also available on the NHVR website.

The Notice allows over-mass heavy vehicles carrying freight containers to operate at up to 20% above General Mass Limits (GML). This concession only applies when transporting standard shipping containers from an approved Stevedore Terminal to an approved Container Freight Station (CFS) along an approved route, and in compliance with the conditions of the Notice and the Operator's Guide.

Roads and Maritime Services and NSW Ports have consented to the Exemption Notice. The Exemption Notice will enable access to CFSs on Roads and Maritime and NSW Ports managed roads that are listed in the Operator's Guide.

Roads and Maritime has not yet secured road manager consent of Bayside Council and Randwick City Council. Operators may apply for access permits through the NHVR for access to CFSs on Bayside Council and Randwick City Council roads.

The 18 month Notice will limit the movement of over-mass heavy vehicles to prescribed routes within the Port Botany Precinct.
